Flamingos Take Flight at Cypress Cove in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

17 May 2025

If you’ve spotted flocks of bright pink flamingos perched around campsites, villas, and poolside at Cypress Cove, you’re not imagining things. The eye-catching birds are part of the resort’s beloved Flamingo Adoption Program, a summer tradition organized by seasonal residents Ric and Laurel to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

Now in its 20th year, the Parrothead Breast Cancer Fundraiser has become one of Cypress Cove’s most impactful charitable events. Each adopted flamingo—or “flamboyance” for those who collect more than one—helps raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research. Every dollar donated goes directly to the cause, while adopters also receive raffle tickets for a chance to win an impressive lineup of prizes.

This year’s Parrothead Raffle features artwork, Cypress Cove villa stays, bicycles, grills, fire pits, top-shelf liquor baskets, and much more. In addition, guests can take part in the Island Weekend Raffle, designed to make Parrothead festivities even more enjoyable. Prizes include reserved parking spots, coolers filled with party essentials, and even the use of a pink sunshade tent in a prime poolside location for the entire event weekend.

Ric and Laurel can often be found poolside, wagon in tow, offering flamingos for adoption and encouraging guests to get involved. “It’s about more than just flamingos—it’s about flocking together as a community to make a difference,” Laurel said.

As Cypress Cove celebrates the milestone 20th Annual Parrothead Weekend, the sight of pink flamingos around the resort is a joyful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to support an important cause.
