Open House

Open House was fun this year. We had around 100 new guests. The hot air balloon rides were popular, but had to be cut a little short due to winds. Everyone seemed to enjoy the water skiers. Thanks to all the volunteers for helping out with tours and parking!

From Ted’s Desk:

Dean and Barbara are headed off to the Bare Necessities cruise to Alaska. There are about 40 Cove members and residents attending, so the Cove should be well represented.

Our new Pirate Party Weekend was an overwhelming success. Our offer of a free drink to the first 10 guests to sign up for the costume contest has really got folks dressing up. It turns out a lot of people own Pirate Costumes!

The funniest moment of the weekend had to be during Pirate Treasure Hunt. I was very amused watching our guests walking as fast as they could in every direction, tracking down the clues that would lead them to the Treasure Chest.

Pirate Party Weekend will definitely be returning next year!

We recently hosted our annual Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Party. Chamber members from all over Kissimmee turned out for food, drinks, tours, door prizes and lively entertainment. We decided to show off our fun new activity, Thoroughbred Hermit Crab Racing, this year. It was quite popular as expected.

The Restaurant showed off their culinary skills with a delicious layout of hot dishes, appetizers and finger food.

We’d really like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who turned out to help park cars and offer tours to our special guests. We had over 160 Chamber members at the party this year!

Our staff is gearing up now for our huge Parrothead Party later this month. The event has been sold out for over a year. This is our 12th one and somehow it seems to get better every time. It’s so hard to get in, we’ve even considered adding a second weekend, either an adjacent weekend or later in the year, maybe during the winter season. What do you think?

A Note From Regis: Pirates, Parrots and More

We just had our first Pirate Party Weekend and what a great time it was. We had great weather (Except for Friday night) and a great turn out for the Pirate Treasure Hunt on Saturday afternoon. Over 50 people were searching the Cove for our stash of pirate booty. The winner won a dinner for 2 at Lakeside Restaurant, 2 nights stay in the villa, $50 in Cove Coins and 2 bottles of Captain Morgan’s Rum (What pirate treasure hunt would be complete without a little bit o’ rum?). And don’t forget the pirate dance party and costume contest. We had pirates running rampant all over the Lakeside Restaurant. Congratulations goes out to Theresa Labonte for winning our first pirate costume contest, and a big thank you to the Cree’s for all their passion and help in getting this weekend off the ground. We look forward to doing it all again next year.

As I write this we are gearing up for Parrothead Weekend, and boy is it going to be a great one. We have had one change to the schedule, the Sunday night BBQ with live music by Mike Meredith has been changed to Captain Josh & Jimmy Pappas, 2 of the guys that will be playing at the Saturday night dance. Unfortunately, Mike had a prior engagement that couldn’t be moved, but I think that Capt. Josh and Jimmy will do a great job.

Another thing I would like to touch on is Monday Music. This last month we had a good turn out but not as many people as we thought it was going to be. I had soooo many emails in my mailbox expressing that they didn’t want Monday music to go away that we figured bringing it back would be a huge slam dunk. So if you want to see Monday Music continue throughout the summer of next year make sure to attend this month with Jim from The Dukes and next month with Glenn Mack. We can only keep it going if people show up, have dinner and have a great Monday night out. I hope to see you all there.

Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours this Wednesday!

A little redundant, but I thought it should have it’s own heading. We will be hosting our annual Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Party on Wednesday, July 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Chamber members will be taking tours through the resort area. Often a few guests will come over to Cheeks and maybe even go swimming after the event. Please help us make them feel welcome!

Fireworks Display was a Blast!

We had a huge crowd this year at the Lakefront for our best fireworks display yet. Everybody really seemed to enjoy it. I’ve been hearing lots of compliments. Make plans to spend your July 4th Weekend at the Cove next year so you don’t miss out!
