Blog Moved

I haven’t updated the blog in a LONG time.  It was mostly just a review of the Cypress Knee online emails and I didn’t find it very useful.  However, I’ve just signed up for a new service for sending the newsletter that should be more reliable than my previous sending method.  It’s called iContact and it’s one of the main email marketing services.  It also includes a community blog, so I thought maybe I’d try it out again.  The new blog (if I keep it up this time) will be just news and messages about the resort, a bit more inside than the newsletter.  If you want to check it out, head over to: http://community.icontact.com/p/cypresscoveresort/blogs/cypress-knee-online

It only has one post up, but it’ll give you an idea what I have in mind.

From Dean’s Desk…

Have you had the opportunity to dine in the “New” Lakeside Restaurant & Lounge? Of course it’s not really new, but both rooms have been nicely spiffed up with all new paint, paper, carpet, tile and ceilings. Even the lounge bar was replaced. The refreshed and updated look and feel of the establishment nicely complements the good food and service that we have become used to.

Recently, while I was enjoying a drink and a snack at the new bar, someone said to me, “Who says snowbirds don’t know how to have fun?” A near-capacity crowd in the dining room was eating, drinking, dancing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It is true that our winter season activities and entertainment differs somewhat from the summer season, and there are good reasons. One important factor is the weather. From late November into early March it is difficult to plan outdoor activities because of the uncertainty of the weather, particularly temperature. Sure, we have many beautiful, warm days and weeks throughout the winter, but it only takes a hint of a cool front coming in to kill an outdoor event.

The other factor influencing winter season activities is the difference in demographics between the two seasons. The summer crowd is comprised of a higher portion of working people who are ready to blow off stress and party hard on the weekends. During the winter season we have more retirees in residence and in the campground, and they are generally a bit more relaxed. They certainly like to have a good time, but when they do party they tend not to work at it so hard. Even so, the occasional event can get pretty intense. On New Year’s Eve for instance, Cheeks didn’t close until 2:30 a.m.

Yes, there are some differences between the summer and winter seasons, but they are not large. Just check the activities calendar, and whatever the time of year you will find plenty of reasons to visit Cypress Cove.

‘Til next time…

A Note From Regis

We need our great Cypress Cove residents to help make our Halloween Hayride the best one yet! We need folks to decorate their yards for Halloween so while we ride through the park, visitors can see how much Halloween spirit the Cove has. We will be offering a dinner for 2 to the best decorated house on the route. If you are interested in being on the Hayride route, sign up at the activities office ASAP.

We are gearing up for the Nude Bike Rally Weekend and the Halloweekend Tool Shed of Terror too. We are now looking for volunteers to help out with the poker run, block party and of course the Toolshed of Terror. We are also looking for vendors to sell biker related wares at the Biker Block Party.

If you would like to help out drop us an email at activities@cypresscoveresort.com letting us know where you would like to volunteer or come on down to the activities office and sign up NOW.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let’s make this October the best one EVER!

From Dean’s Desk

I have a couple of reminders for you this month. First, the American Nudist Research Library Digital Challenge will be ending soon, and the drawing for the winning ticket will take place shortly after the first of November. The purpose of the challenge is to raise money to support the digitization of the Library’s vast collection of nudist related historical material. Much of this material is very old and deteriorating, and the project will preserve it for future reference. This a worthy project and deserving of donations for its own sake.

However, the challenge itself could also stand alone. For a five dollar ticket you have the opportunity to win thirty nights in a Villa Apartment, which may be used all at once or in increments of as few as three nights at a time. Added services and benefits from Cypress Cove, Nature Hair, Silver Lining Massage and D&R Golf Cart Emporium make the entire prize package worth thousands. The potential return is very attractive, and your chances are a lot better than the twenty-three million to one odds in the Florida lottery! The AANR office in Kissimmee is handling the ticket sales, so send a check today, for any number of chances at $5.00 each, to the American Association for Nude Recreation, 1703 North Main St. Suite E, Kissimmee, FL 34744. Be sure to reference the ANRL Digital Challenge.

The AANR also figures in my second reminder. Last year at about this time I announced that we would start requiring AANR membership of all Cypress Cove members, starting in 2008. Well, that time is almost here. For all memberships that renew on or after January 1, 2008, AANR membership will be an additional and required cost. The amount is $58.50 for a couple, or $33.00 for a single. At least two-thirds of our Cove members already have AANR membership, so those of you in that category will not see any increased cost next year.

Members of more than one AANR club need only pay the AANR membership fee once, so if you do have AANR membership through another club just provide the membership number that is on your membership card(s), and delete the AANR portion of the fee. By the way, paying your membership renewal in December, for a January expiration, will not bypass the AANR requirement. If the renewal date is in 2008, AANR membership will be required.

The AANR works hard year around to ensure a positive public image for nude recreation. In addition, they are constantly in touch with federal, state and local attempts to pass regulations, laws or ordinances that could impact our rights to enjoy our style of living and recreation. One particularly harmful piece of legislation was derailed this year right here in Florida. There are monetary benefits in AANR membership, including discounts at other nudists resorts and participating businesses, but even if you never take advantage of these benefits, your AANR membership fee is money well spent. We hope you understand and agree.

‘Til next time…
