St. Patrick’s Day Weekend, March 16-18

Shamrock.gifPlan now to attend our big St. Patrick’s Day Party, Mar 17th. The good times start on Friday night with Super Mega Trivia 3000, the game show everyone, including the audience, gets to play. The champion of the night wins a free one night stay in our hotel!

Saturday is a busy morning. First is the Cove-Wide Garage Sale starting at 8 am. Tennis fans won’t want to miss the St. Paddy’s Day Weekend Green vs. Orange Fun Tennis Tournament, starting at 9:30 am. Also on Saturday morning, we are offering a Ukulele Class at 10 am.

On Saturday night, we are lucky enough to have the authentic Irish sounds of Celtic Echoes featuring Billy Finnegan, coming from Ireland once again this year. This band will really get you in the spirit. The restaurant will also be serving great Irish cuisine for you to enjoy during the show, so you can eat, dance and enjoy a few drinks all at the same time. Seating in the dining room will not be available until 9 pm for non-diners because we are expecting a lot of reservations.

Get your green on and head on over to Cypress Cove for a great weekend you won’t soon forget!

Updates on the recent repairs around the park

CIMG0171.JPGThe Cabanas at the West Pool have all been re-roofed and are looking good. The Cabanas were damaged a bit in the hurricanes of 2004. They were functional, but missing shingles and such. Now, they have been completely re-roofed and look better than new. The Cabanas are now fully open for use, as is the pool area in general.

CIMG0169.JPGMatt has completed installing the tin fence at the garden. It is dark green and blends well into the background. This is the same fencing that will be going up on the northern boundary of the campground. Matt is already replacing the poles whenever possible. We will probably replace the tin towards the end of April when sites are more open.

CIMG0170.JPGTennis courts 3 & 4 should be finished being repaired and resurfaced today. It will take a couple of days to cure, but the courts will be ready to play by Saturday morning for the big tournament. Feel free to stop by and have a look, just don’t walk on it yet!

Petanque news

A very active Petanque season is drawing to a close. Tournaments were held in January and February, and the Good-bye Snowbird Tournament will be held March 24th. Much work was completed on the courts, scoreboards, and the grounds.

Petanque.pngThanks to the many volunteers who helped with the repairs and running of the tournaments. There are always scheduled games in the morning and afternoon. The daily games draw an average of 40 to 50 players a day. All are welcome so come on down and join us.

RC Yacht Club Regatta

The Cypress Cove Remote Control Yacht Club would like to thank everyone who attended our 6th Annual Regatta on March 11, 2007. And a very special thanks to the Cove management team, Matt & the maintenance department, the restaurant staff and Regis & his team. Without their help, it couldn’t have happened.

YachtClub2_2007.JPGThe Regatta takes place every March and is one of the biggest events in the Cove’s busy social schedule. It starts early in the morning with the powerboat events, including balloon boat challenges and power boat racing on our grand prix race circuit. We started our program with the Management Balloon Boat Race. Ivan was quickly eliminated, leaving Regis & Ted to fight it out. It was an epic battle and when the dust settled, Regis celebrated the win.

After a tasty lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers, the remote control sailing ships took to the water. There were a number of run off races and then the best of the best sailed for the coveted prizes. This year the winner of the Ladies Soling and the Open Soling were husband & wife and the second place was also a husband & wife.

YachtClub3_2007.JPGThe regatta is not only a sailing event; we also have activities just for the fun of it. The anything-goes-race pitted powerboats against sailing boats and even with the excellent wind conditions, the power boats won again. The canoe race pitted the restaurant staff against the social directors and a pick-up team of two adventurous ladies. Again, against all odds, Regis won. Not bad for a team that started out by falling out of the canoe.

The Regatta has turned into an all-day event with 24 races, food & drink; five raffles with many great items, a 50-50 draw and an announcer to keep the large audience informed & entertained. To top off the day, awards and trophies were presented at the evening banquet.

YachtClub1_2007.JPGWe have been sailing our graceful one meter solings on Brown Lake for 6 ½ years. Our solings are sloop rigged radio controlled yachts. There are no motors; they are driven only by wind power. The skipper can adjust the trim of the sails and the angle of the rudder. The rest is skill and luck. The club has grown to over 60 members with 35 solings, power boats and of course the very popular balloon boats. By the way, this is a family activity with both women and men captains.
