Football season, it’s the time of year when there’s a certain buzz in the air, and it culminates February 4th with the big game, the Super Bowl. We want to celebrate here at Cypress Cove too, so that’s why we are continuing Super Bowl Tailgate Weekend, Feb 2-4.
The 2007 Nude Cruise departs Saturday morning, so Friday night is all about the cruisers. It starts out with a Nude Cruise Meet & Greet at 4 pm on Friday in the Lounge. Then head over to Cheeks after dinner for a Bon Voyage Streak at Cheeks Party. Dance to all your favorite songs with DJ Xavier.
There will be a special early morning Breakfast Buffet at 6 am on Saturday. For those who stay, there will be a fun 3 Person Best Ball Golf Scramble on Saturday at 11:30 am. Registration is just $10 for non-members and includes lunch with hot dogs, sodas and beer. Pot luck contributions are welcome. Then Saturday night there will be a dance at 7 pm in the Lakeside Restaurant with DJ Shawn.
Of course, it all peaks with the big game on Sunday. Don’t miss the Super Bowl Party on Sunday at 6 pm at Cheeks. Watch the game with your friends on our big screen TV. Take advantage of the food & drink specials, including $1 Drafts and $.25 wings. And, enjoy a great weekend at Cypress Cove!

The following is being posted at the request of one of our residents:
As many of you know, last year I raised a Guide Dog Puppy named Benny. Benny has gone back to the school to the professional trainers and is working his way through the program to be a Guide Dog. With Luck, he will finish his training in a couple of months and be given free of charge to a blind person giving them mobility and a wonderful life.
Last year I approached many of you to sponsor Benny and I in a Walkathon to help support the work of Southeastern Guide Dogs. My current Guide Dog Puppy Magic and I will be walking in the Walkathon again this year. We are asking you to give generously and sponsor our walk, to enable Southeastern to breed, raise and train these puppies to be given away free to our blind fellow citizens. Southeastern estimates the value of a fully trained Guide Dog to be $40,000.00.
I will gladly accept your donations at my home, your home and am hoping to set up at old Cheeks on Sunday, January 28, 2007 from 1 to 4 PM. Your cheque made out to Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc. is your tax receipt.
Thank you in advance for your generous donation.

It should be a beautiful weekend at Cypress Cove with highs of about 72 degrees on Saturday & Sunday. It’s a little cool today, so it will be a welcome change.
This will be a nice relaxing weekend with no major events scheduled. We will have a Karaoke Party on Friday night in the Lakeside Lounge. There are 1000’s of songs to choose from, just try to stump us!
On Saturday night we have a Streak at Cheeks Party starting at 7 pm. DJ Xavier will be on hand to play all your favorites, so go ahead and give him your requests. Hope to see you there!

We have a couple of schedule changes to let you know about. I have updated the February & March calendars, so they should be correct.
First, due to some scheduling conflicts, the Music Monday All Stars Show scheduled for February 9th will be replaced by a Dance with Live Oldies Music by The Dukes. This is part of the Valentine’s Weekend activities and should be very fun.
Speaking of The Dukes, they were scheduled to appear once a month for Music Monday. Unfortunately, the full band will not be available on Monday nights. The good news is that Jim from The Dukes is available and will be still performing. Look for Jim on Monday, February 12th in the Lakeside Restaurant at 7 pm.
Not really a schedule change, but more of an announcement. There will be two fun tennis tournaments coming soon. The Presidential Weekend Red-Blue Fun Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 17th. The St. Paddy’s Day Weekend Green-Orange Fun Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 17th (easy to remember).
Highlights of the tournament include fun tennis, a cocktail party (beer for the winning team; soda for the losing team), and a picnic following the games. There is an entry fee of $8 to play. Spectators who wish to join in the Post Tournament Picnic will also be charged $8. All collected fees are to cover the costs of the tennis balls, cocktail party and picnic. Sign up in advance. Fees will be collected by Jack & Gail at lot 85.

Well, here we are at the start of a brand new year, and the weather is fantastic so far. This is my first column created specifically for our new Cypress Knee format. It will be somewhat more brief than usual, but I will try to get one out monthly instead of bimonthly. We’ll see how it goes.
At this time of year we look both backward and forward, to our accomplishments in the past and to our plans for the future. Our biggest accomplishment of 2006 was the completion of renovations to the Villas. We have two additional pet units, both are non-smoking apartments, and about half of the hotel rooms are what we are calling Parlor Rooms. These rooms have a large, convertible sofa in place of the second bed, and they have become very popular.
Much of the renovation project was done by our own maintenance staff, and it kept that department busy for many months. Now we can plan additional projects that will continue to refurbish facilities and enhance your experience here at the Cove.
We hope to see you here often in 2007. If you enjoy the entertainment and special events you see on the calendar, come on out and support them. Or, let us know what you would enjoy more. We want you to be enthusiastic supporters of Cypress Cove, not just throughout 2007, but for many years into the future.
‘Till next time…
