The Camera Club has posted their online newsletter for October.
Old Business
The current show / competition display is to be taken down after today’s meeting. At future photo competitions no photos that have won previous ribbons can be submitted again. Any photo that has been submitted twice & not won a ribbon does not warrant being submitted again.
Members are reminded that photos are to have stiff backing as some of the photos submitted were bending & becoming unglued due to the length of time on display.
New Business
A Biker group photo shoot was set up for 10am on the sunning lawn behind The Terrace. Unfortunately the turnout was less than expected, but we did get a $15 donation for the 8X10 pics. We collected a total of $45.
The membership voted on the motion to use up to $280 from our funds for the new carpet and materials to expand our display boards in The Game Room.

We hosted our annual Nude Art Show this weekend. The weather cooperated nicely. We had over 500 visitors come in for the Art Show. The exhibits were excellent this year. One artisit who dealt in stained glass sold over 40 pieces!
Overall, the guests were very respectful of our nude areas. Several visitors decided to participate and even take out annual memberships! I would call that a successful weekend.

The Four Corners publication, The Reporter, recently posted an article discussing the status of several ongoing projects in the Poinciana area. There is not a lot of new information here, but items such as the new Post Office, the proposed hospital (which was apparently turned down by the state), a planned toll road, shops, restaurants, and medical offices are all touched on.

There is an Associated Press report regarding nudist resorts coming out of hiding which has been picked up by media outlets all over the country. The article quotes AANR and mentions Cypress Cove and several other popular nudist destinations.
“Nudist resorts are dropping the figleaf.
Clothing-free resorts have traditionally been rustic, mom-and-pop campgrounds hidden deep in the woods, away from prying eyes and bluenosed politicians. But now, fancy nude recreation spots are springing up along major highways, and resort owners are joining chambers of commerce, sponsoring charity drives and hosting civic events.
…“Once upon a time, people built walls. And the feeling was, ‘We’ve got to have walls. We’ve got to be obscure,”‘ said Erich Schuttauf, executive director of the American Association for Nude Recreation. “That really left people wondering what happens behind those walls. Folks didn’t realize it was basically just a club, what a swim and tennis club would resemble.”
Owners regularly look to one of the oldest nudist spots, the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort and Spa in Kissimmee, Fla., as a pioneer of this openness.
For 20 years, the resort has hosted an annual July open house to welcome neighbors. More recently, it has sponsored a yearly chamber of commerce event and an annual Body of Art show featuring about 25 artists and their nudist artwork.
“By demystifying it, people understand us better — and people don’t think we’re a bunch of crackpots,” said Dean Hadley, the resort’s manager.”

Plans are under way to build a $15 million shopping center on a 16-acre site in Poinciana, developers announced Thursday.
The Mediterranean-style center will feature nine buildings and more than 100,000 square feet of retail space. It will be fronting Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie and more than 70 other shops, businesses and restaurants that operate in Poinciana Town Center — the retail hub and social center of the Poinciana community being developed by Avatar Properties Inc.
… Developers say that Pollo Tropical, Wendy’s and Panda Express restaurants have committed to three free-standing sites fronting Cypress Parkway. Also, they say Dollar Tree, Hibbett Sports, Cato women’s fashions, Sherwin Williams paints, Payless Shoe Source, Amscot Financial Services, Sally Beauty and GameStop have committed to space in two other buildings.
Cypress Plaza is expected to open for business in fall 2007.

There was a great crowd, a ton of bikes, and lots of fun! We had more vendors than ever, including a hena tattoo artist giving free tattoos! We had more bikes than ever playing in the biker games, with a huge crowd of onlookers to boot. Everyone seemed to enjoy the block party and all the special treats that were available. All in all, I’d say it was a great weekend. Plan now for next year!
Thank you to all of the volunteers to helped to make this year’s bike weekend a success. We look forward to working with you again next year.
“To Dean, Ted, the whole Cypress Cove crew, and especially to Regis, we want to commend you all on a superb weekend. It really was a fun weekend and being the first one that we’ve attended, it exceeded our expectations. Thank you all.”
