Full Moon Gathering
Sunday, March 16th
Full Moon Gathering at 7:10 pm, March 16th.
Full Moon rises at 7:47 pm after the Sun sets at 7:35 pm.
We always meet by the campfire circle by Lake Brown. We have a campfire, weather permitting, with an open invitation to bring a musical instrument to play such as a drum or flute if so inclined. This Month is the Full Worm Moon – March. As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.
Pickleball Tournament Results
by Mike Sullivan
This past weekend, idyllic Florida weather and the wonderful facilities of Cypress Cove's new purpose-built Pickleball courts welcomed 26 avid Pickleball players from around the region and over two dozen fans and supporters for the First Annual Cypress Cove International Nudist Pickleball Open.
Saturday's prelims saw spirited play as competitors vied for seed ranking in Sunday's championship round. The post-play party at Cheeks and the West Pool Saturday afternoon was a blast, with 30+ players, supporters and fans enjoying a glorious day poolside in the warm Florida sun after so much great play earlier in the day. Saturday night's awards reception and group dinner for 30 players and friends at Lakeside Restaurant was a blast as well, which all paved the way for a fantastic day of exciting competition on Sunday.
Sunday's double-elimination tournament was capped by a thrilling finals round, with the tournament not decided until the final point of the final game and some incredibly high-level play by all involved. This First Annual spring event on the beautiful new Pickleball courts at Cypress Cove was a huge success, thanks to the support of Cove management and the enthusiastic participation by so many great players.
Medal winners from the weekend:
Gold: Scott Nelson (Satellite Beach, FL) & Ray Brown (Cypress Cove)
Silver: Dave Meiser (Cypress Cove) & Art Alwine (Ocala)
Bronze: Don Kelleher (Solivita) & Brendon Smith (Florence, SC)
The next Cove Pickleball tournament is set for Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the 2nd Annual Cove Turkey Smash. Everyone is welcome to enter and compete! Stop by the Pickleball courts any day of the week at 9:30 to try out and learn this exciting, fast-action, immensely fun team sport on the new courts at Cypress Cove!

Cypress Cove 50th Anniversary Celebration
Can you believe it's 2014 already? Cypress Cove opened its doors to the public in the Spring of 1964, and we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary all year long.
We have a tremendous appreciation for the wonderful members and guests who have been supporting Cypress Cove and our special brand of family nudism for 50 years.
In appreciation of that support, we are offering a few perks for visiting Cypress Cove this year.
- We have frozen rates for 2014. That means that all hotel rooms, campsites, memberships, day rates, etc. will remain at 2013 prices. The only exception is the newly remodeled rooms which will be officially opening very soon. More on that later.
- We are offering a FREE Full Membership promotion. Every prize winner throughout the year, be it Bar Trivia, Super Mega Trivia 3000, our costume contests, games for our themed weekends (like the golf cart games on NASCAR Weekend), or DJ Xavier's Pool Party games, will all be entered for a chance to win a FREE Full Membership at the end of the year. We will do the drawing at next year's New Year's Eve Party.
- Every overnight guest will receive a special 50th Anniversary Cove Coin when they check in. The Coin has a $5 value towards any purchase at any of our retail or food & beverage outlets. Or you may keep it as a souvenir.
We will be celebrating the Anniversary in other ways as well. We will be reintroducing some classic Cove t-shirt designs throughout the year. We might even have a Cove designs from the past Fashion Show at some point. We will be putting up various Anniversary displays around the resort showing old photos, shirts and memorabilia.
Of course, the big celebration will be the actual 50th Anniversary Weekend, which we will be celebrating April 4-6. We will bring back the Summer Pool Parties that weekend as well, which is a month earlier than usual.
There's lots more in store as well. It's going to be a good year!

News from Ted
We've had one crazy busy weekend after the next. This weekend was NASCAR Weekend, the First Annual International Pickleball Open, AND Mardi Gras!
The Pickleball Tournament was Saturday and Sunday. There was quite a mob there both days.
For NASCAR Weekend, we do Golf Cart Games. First drivers lined up to see who's cart was the fastest in the Golf Cart Drag Racing. Then they met on the lake for some hilarious Golf Cart Games, including the Blind Rally. The driver is blindfolded while a passenger navigates. The navigator is mic'd so everybody can hear their directions. The golf carts have to traverse a small course with 4 check points. It is WAY harder than it sounds and hysterical to watch.
The party never ended as Monday & Tuesday were our Mardi Gras Celebration. The Mardi Gras Committee really pulled out all the stops this year. The "Mask-r-ade" Coronotion Ball was filled to capacity. Everyone wore masks and had a great time dancing with friends. Richard & Mary Alice were crowned this year's Mardi Gras King & Queen.
The events on Tuesday were non-stop with Body Painting in the morning, followed by the Fat Tuesday Parade, which was one of the largest we've ever had. Golf carts, bicycles and floats lined up decorated in Mardi Gras colors and tossed beads to the anxious crowd of spectators.
Immediately following the parade was the Draq Queen Contest at the pool. Those were some interesting women, let me tell you. They said they were judging them on poise, beauty and grace. I'm not sure how much poise, beauty and grace there was to choose from, but Dave "won" (?). There were even more fun and games to follow at the Mardi Pool Pardi. Finally, everyone wound down the night at the Mardi Gras Streak at Cheeks Party.
A really special thanks to the Mardi Gras Committee this year. The party is always great, but they really put in a lot of effort and it showed.
This weekend is the RC Yacht Club Regatta and the Cove Players Spring Show. The Spring Show is titled, "A Night at the Movies." The show will play both Friday & Saturday nights. These are always great crowd pleasers. Get your tickets now before it's too late!
The RC Yacht Club Regatta is on Saturday. This is a fun event. The RC Yacht Club sets up displays of the RC boats, and put on a wide variety of races. There will be food & drink, prizes and more.
By the way, check out the weather for this weekend!
We had a great article about Cypress Cove's 50th Anniversary in the Orlando Sentinel. There is an accompanying video that is pretty good too.
However, I have to explain something in the video. They pointed the camera at my dad and asked him the first question. As he started to answer, I thought, "I should turn my ringer off," so I pulled my phone out of my pocket and opened it to turn off the sound.
Unfortunately, from the way they cut it, it looks like I just took my phone out and started texting in the middle of the interview. It looks really bad. But I would never disrespect my dad like that, I swear! :)
We had a big group in Cheeks last Sunday to watch the Olympic Hockey Games. It was only able to happen because Herman volunteered to come in early after working late the night before. He even brought in treats. Great job as always, Herman!
"Many thanks for giving the go-ahead for Cheeks to open early last Saturday at 10 am, and then on Sunday at 7 am for the Olympic hockey games. It was wonderful for all the hockey fans to gather to cheer and shout for their teams. And a BIG recognition to Herman for coming in early and doing yeoman's service keeping the coffee flowing and providing nourishment with muffins and Danish that he picked up on his way in.
On Sunday there were over 60 Americans and Canadians cheering on Canada against Sweden, and Canada winning the Gold. That was the culmination after the three previous days of Olympic Hockey with the USA women and men's teams, and the Canadian women and men's teams in competition for medals. It was a great few days to be together and share our enthusiasms! Thanks again to all who made it happen!" - Gail Witherspoon

Someone suggested that we create a page on our website going into a bit more detail on our various classes and activities. If you are responsible for one of the scheduled classes or activities, please email me a brief description. One sentence would be okay, more if needed, but just a summary for new visitors. I'm thinking of everything from bingo to exercises to petanque. Thank you in advance!
Regis handles activities, but I put together the weekly newsletter. I'm always looking for content. If you have anything that you would like to see in the newsletter, please email submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We received some very nice new reviews on TripAdvisor. Thank you! If you would like to help spread the word, you can review us using the link below.
